Pan is incredibly thin and pale leading those that don’t know him to think he’s sickly. He’s always looked this way, even before the virus. Those that know him know that he has a good appetite and can eat and drink most people under the table. Sustenance just never seems to stick to him.

His hair changes as often as possible. If he finds any way to dye or somehow alter his hair he’s all over it. Most of the time his hair is dark brown and chopped into all manner of varying lengths and styles. He’s often seen adorned with flowers, feathers or other bits of things he can find.

When he’s wearing clothes (he often goes without a shirt, or much of anything really) they can be described as well, creative. He patches his own things and rumor has it can even rival Nova’s craftmanship. His clothes are comfortable, quirky and colorful. Most of the time he’s dressed in cut-off jeans or high-waters and a leather vest that he painted to match the vests in the ‘70’s movie The Warriors.

He also dons a British accent, having spent the better part of his life in Oxford, England.

Distinguishing Marks:
Four five-pointed stars in a line down the outside of his left arm. Inside each star is the head of a horse, all designed in a way that portrays the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Various little scars and cuts all over. He is also missing his top left canine tooth.

Personality: Sometimes people are born in the wrong era. Pan is one of those people. If there was ever anyone that was made for the hippies movement of the ‘60s it was Pan. He’s perhaps the most laid back person that you’d ever meet. He takes things in stride and prefers to keep things mellow. Despite that fact he does have a trouble-causing streak inside him. He’s fond of practical jokes, and all manners of good-natured mischief. Even though he gets a kick out of other’s small misfortunes he finds his own humiliation equally amusing, and knows how to be the butt of a joke.

It’s not hard to get on Pan’s good side and he generally gets along well with the majority of people. People who are pretentious or take themselves way too seriously really get under his skin and if he believes that someone falls under one of those two categories he will tease them to no end. He’s always looking for people who are willing to have a good time, and just be silly with him.

He likes to pretend he’s the lone wolf, or clown rather, but in all actuality he can’t imagine living without other people. He doesn’t admit it but he hates being alone, he’d rather be locked in somewhere with a complete stranger than be completely alone. Because of his need for other people he tends to be a very physical person and he’s often abnormally affectionate with people regardless of the relationship he has with them. Unlike some of the River Runners that use their bodies for the acquisition of goods, Pan needs physical relationships to keep himself sane.

Most of his physical behavior stems from an intense need for love that he believes he’s never had satisfied. However, the fact is that there have been plenty of people in his life that have loved him dearly. Pan has never found a way to accept love from people. He always brushes off their affections as being false, believing that he’s never been deserving of the kind of love that people have tried to give him.

He’s easy-going and willing to try almost anything. In some ways he’s reckless, but it’s a genuinely innocent attempt at having fun and being open minded. If Pan had a motto it would be something like: You only live once so try everything you can. He tries to live up to that standard, of course he does have limits, they're just farther out of reach than most people's.

Personal History:

Will Sharsby was born to Racheal McCalister when she was only 15. Joseph Allen, Will’s father, was only 17 himself. Will was born under the name Joseph Rachael Allen. The parents of the young couple wanted Rachael to get an abortion but the couple refused and much to the disapproval of their parents, took off into the night. The two of them had enough cash between them to get to Oxford.

Will spent the first months of his life on the streets with his young, poor parents. When the parents of his parents found them and their child they threw Will into an orphanage and took their own children back to London. The parents of Rachael and Joseph were fairly well off and were able to keep their children from ever searching for Will. Money goes a long way when it comes to erasing identities. As far as the authorities were concerned a child named Joseph Rachael Allen never existed.

Despite the demand for new-borns, Will floated around the orphanage until the age of three when he was put into foster care. He bounced from foster family to foster family, but not because of bad behavior. Will has always believed they were simply unable to love him, or didn't want to. This is perhaps where is feeling of inadequacy comes from. Although he was legally called Will Sharsby, a name the orphanage workers invented, he was nicknamed Pan. They gave him this nickname because he never seemed to grow up, never seemed to find a family that suited him. He also played the flute rather well so the name suited him in many ways.

When Will was fifteen he was finally adopted by a nice couple from the United States. They brought him to live in their hometown of Sundance, Wyoming. Needless to say, Wyoming was worlds different from Oxford. Although Will was put into the finest high school Sundance had to offer he couldn't have stuck out more. He had next to nothing in common with the other students there, and it wasn't just his accent that made him stick out. He wore the school uniforms but did his best to have the craziest hair he could and modify his uniforms in any way that he could. He found class to be boring and other students to mostly be pigs.

Although his home life had more or less improved he wouldn't let himself enter into the kind of caring
parent-child relationship that his new parents wanted with him. He constantly got into trouble at school and barely managed to graduate before they tried to kick him out. As soon as Will turned 18 he hopped a bus with the money he'd managed to save from working at a local thrift store, and took off to Canada. He hitch-hiked all around the country, staying in campgrounds and meeting fabulous people. He made some of the best friends he'd ever had in his life during his travels. That was when he decided that was the way he'd live his life. He figured, from what he'd been told he'd started out on the streets and that was where he would end up. Living real life with real people.

The Ans virus forced him to have a change in plans, as it did for countless others. When he heard how bad things were getting he couldn't fight the need to return to the only real parents he'd ever known. So his new friends gave him a ride to the Canadian border. He had to wait there for a week before they'd let him back into the country. He hitched what rides he could until that became too scarce and dangerous. He'd stayed to the back roads and remote paths as he headed south-east to Sundance. When he reached town the dust had settled and the Wolves had already taken over half the city.

He found the rotting bodies of his parents in their bed, holding a picture of him. That was the first time he'd ever felt loved, and ever wept at the death of someone. It was then that he found his way to the river where he sat seriously considering the prospect of drowning himself. The world had ended and he'd missed the whole damn parade, how incerdibly par for the course. It was a few days later that he found the River Runners. Their lifestyle reminded him of the way he'd lived in Canada. They told him that if he could find his own boat and earn his way that he could join. It took him a few weeks but he finally managed to peice together his own houseboat and return to them with a pile of fish he'd caught and a song on a flute he'd carved.
